As a child my mother used to spank me from time to time when I would misbehave since it was the only form of discipline she knew. I think that she used spanking as discipline because that is how she was brought up. As a kid herself, he mother used to spank her and so would her teachers at school. However at that time, spanking wasn’t considered abuse and abuse wasn’t illegal unless someone was killed and even if someone were killed, the Chinese government wouldn’t do much about it. The way my mother was raised, influenced how she would grow up to raise her own daughter, in this case, me. My dad on the other hand, is more religious than my mother and because of the values he believes from the religion, he believes spanking isn’t an appropriate form of discipline. Different peoples perspectives can come from the beliefs and values they believe in, whether thats a stand on a political debate or a religion. Let's say you're a parent, a parent's natural instinct is to protect and raise their child right, however, each parent's definition of right will differ. Some parents might think that spanking is a form of discipline and that they hit their child because they love them while others might think that hitting their children will show them that they don't love them.
